Although the protective effect of neutrophils against bacterial infection has been fully affirmed, there is some evidence that the role of neutrophils in the antiviral defense mechanism is also important. This article reviews the research on the interactions between neutrophils and viruses. Interaction between Neutrophils and Viruses Chemotaxis Clinical studies have shown that there are many neutrophils at the site of virus proliferation suggesting that certain viruses provide the necessary stimulating substances for neutrophil migration. This possibility has been demonstrated by in vitro studies that further support is provided by viruses such as herpes simplex, mumps, Newcastle disease that produce chemotactic substances. Neutrophils adhere to a virus phase
