朱光潜的青年时代正处于“五四”新文化运动的浓厚氛围中,也因此注定了这位美学老人与五四新文化运动的复杂因缘,五四文化精神投射到了他六十多年跌宕起伏的心路历程之中。总的来说,“儒家传统思想的基础”在朱光潜身上占据着主导地位。这一精神特点其实正是中国古老文化传统中读书人“儒道互补”特点的生动体现。纵观朱光潜的一生,尽管一直都在看似纯粹的美学园地里耕耘,但他却是一个入世情怀很深的美学家,一生都在不断呼应着时事的变化,从这个意义上说,朱光潜的一生更像是一个儒生的人生轨迹。

His life is constantly echoing changes in current affairs. In this sense, Zhu Guangqian’s Life is more like a Confucian life trajectory.
