“Sucrose Revolution ” refers to a series of historic events that took place in the Caribbean in the 17th century and far-reaching impact on the Atlantic world. British Barbados was the first to experience such a revolutionary change. Before the “Sucrose Revolution,” Barbados society was characterized primarily by the small landowners planting tobacco and other crops with the help of some white contract helpers. However, as sugarcane became the main crop of the British Barbados, smallholders who used to own most of the island’s land were gradually replaced by hundreds of plantation owners who could afford machines and equipment, Production gradually transformed into large-scale plantation production. The structure of the labor force also gradually changed from white contractual helpers to black slaves. The society in which the Barbados society and the early colonizers after the Succumbed Revolution were founded is quite different.
