先说我与南曲的因缘。回忆1939年,我的上司晋江县民众教育馆之长陈家楫先生(毕业于上海大学艺术系),他是懂南曲的。记得是初秋的夜晚,他在自植的葡萄架下,弹拔着南琵琶,吟唱道:“怎般兮乐(于于于)畅……”南曲留给我的第一个印象,它是一种高雅的艺术。待到1943年,我到晋江渔村蚶江当小学教员,我在村里的“闲间”中,见到渔民们在业余时间摆开“四管全”,低垂着眼帘,在那里“剔(玩)弦管”。那种悠然自得的神态,留给我很深的印象,我由此又发现南曲是一种通俗的艺术。接着,我深一步想到,泉州城乡的南曲居然把“高雅”与“通俗”统一起来了,结合
