The relationship between Russia and South Africa can be traced back to the relations between the Soviet Union and the African National Congress of South Africa, which started in the early 1960s. For nearly 30 years, the Soviet Union has provided the ANC with important moral and material assistance, especially assistance with armament. Since the mid-1980s, new changes have taken place in the relations between the Soviet Union and the ANC. The alliance strategy of the Soviet Union and the ANC’s diversification strategy have produced a benign interaction and created a more suitable environment for democratic reforms in South Africa. However, The role of the new South Africa in the creation should not be overestimated. In fact, the relations between the Soviet Union and the ANC dwindled in the late 1980s, directly affecting the relations between Russia and South Korea thereafter.
