In recent years, many countries have initiated national and international sustainable mobility and transport strategies; to date, these strategies have enjoyed some success. However, the ensuing question is whether the sustainability of transport systems and policies can be assessed and how this assessment can be applied to transportation planning. This article focuses on the assessment and monitoring framework used in the transport sector. It explores some of the systems currently in use and discusses how and if they help to effectively and effectively establish the concept of sustainability that governs mobility. The six systems discussed in this paper include a common environmental measurement system, a transport policy implementation measurement framework and four assessment systems with a particular focus on the interaction between environment and transport. Four of these systems are national (two in Denmark, Canada and the United States) and two are international (EEA and OECD OECD). The article concludes that these and other systems seem relatively limited in their guidance to achieve sustainable mobility. To better achieve our sustainability goals, we need to think about four main issues: how to solve the environment’s problems, how to incorporate causal factors into the system, how to reflect the sustainability and policy goals, how to integrate the evaluation system Policy formulation linked.
