1931年,在北大教书的钱穆与几位教授相约游华山。走到半道上,遭遇劫匪,几人所带的钱财被洗劫一空,新买的相机也被抢走。最让钱穆心疼的是,就连戴在鼻梁上的眼镜,劫匪也不放过。钱穆找劫匪交涉:“钱财你们可以拿走,但眼镜是我的必用之物,此次游历华山,如果没有眼镜,岂不是盲人摸象,还望成全!”劫匪哪管这些,带着劫来的财物,扬长而去。晚上,躺在床上的钱穆仍念叨着被劫匪抢去的眼镜。他突发奇想,劫匪要的是钱,眼镜拿去没多大的用处,说不定半路就会丢掉。想到这里,钱穆叫上一位同伴,要他陪自己去找眼镜。两人回到遇劫的地方仔细寻找,未果。看到钱穆丢了眼镜失落的样子,陪同出游的陕西省政府的一位
