任白涛是我国最早研究新闻学的学者之一，他从辛亥革命之后开始从事新闻实践和新闻学术研究。任白涛的新闻学相关著作包括《应用新闻学》《国际通讯的机构及其作用》《抗战期间的新闻宣传》《日本对华的宣传政策》及《综合新闻学》，是我国近代学术成果较多的新闻学者之一。
