张承志《心灵史》抒情性特别浓厚,而理性的批判力、判断力则极度缺失。批判力缺失具体表现为是非不分、戴有色眼镜、自相矛盾、以偏概全、故作高深五个方面。《心灵史》之所以丧失批判力,根本原因在于东西部经济发展不平衡。作者在书中对哲合忍耶的一味赞美和对其他地区流露出来的嫌恶,正是东西部地区贫富悬殊而精神文明发展不平衡这一社会问题的体现。《心灵史》主观性浓厚但缺乏公正客观的批判,理性根基薄弱,缺少理性力量的支撑,只有热的抒情而没有冷的理性批判,情感的抒发热烈但易受质疑,所要达到的效果远没有作者设想的那样震撼人心。
