Normal adult liver volume is about 2% to 3% of body mass. In contrast, it is more difficult to assess a child’s standard liver volume because the percentage of liver volume to body mass changes with age. There is very little data available to estimate the standard volume of human liver. The available data are mainly derived from small sample studies and there is very little data concerning the standard volume of liver for children. In liver transplantation in children, very few recipients have access to a volume-matched donor liver. Most pediatric liver transplant recipients are surgically-trimmed adult adult donors. For infants and children under 10 years of age, the upper and lower left outer lobes are suitable for the donor liver. However, the age range of child recipients is larger, with the left outer lobe supplying the body
