Osteogenesis imperfecta is often considered the most common inheritable bone dysfunction in children. However, most patients with osteogenesis imperfecta survive as well as normal people. One of the salient features of this disease is the marked decline in the rate of adolescent fracture, the reason for which is not clear. Changes in puberty may be an important factor. If this statement holds true, then, women with osteogenesis imperfecta may have an extra burden on the patient.
