In the past, there was a HIV gene sequence in the genomic DNA of thyrocytes in patients with Graves disease. In this paper, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect the HIV gene sequences in white blood cells and thyroid tissues of these patients. As a result, HIV-1-related DNA sequences were not found in Graves patients. A series of experiments by Fusco et al. Demonstrated that typical retroviral C can infect and transform murine thyroid cell lines, that retroviral infections are associated with chick autoimmune thyroiditis and goat arthritis, and that retroviruses are associated with autoimmune thyroid disease still not clear.
