几年前,一位老革命在纪念“五四”的文章中谈到,“五四”不仅是青年的节日,还是思想的节日。青年通过学习探讨获得进步,就是对“五四”最好的纪念。编辑部很赞成这样的说法。站在世纪之交的门槛上,回首79年前的今天,聆听“五四”前辈们对科学民主的呼唤,令人感慨万千。在大半个世纪的岁月里,一代又一代的中国青年在“五四”精神的感召下,探求真理,投身革命和建设,付出了难以想像的艰辛。在党的领导下,“五四”播撒的火种烧毁了帝国主义和封建主义的枷锁,当年志士仁人的憧憬已经在我们的土地上变成现实。经过几十年的建设和发展,特别是改革开放,中国的经济增长连年位居世界前列,综合国力已和当年不可同日而语。去年7月1日,中国恢复对香港行使主权,一雪百年耻辱。这些成就值得我们珍惜和自豪。 A few years ago, in an article commemorating the May Fourth Movement, an old revolutionary stated in his article: “May Fourth Movement” is not only a festival for young people but also a festival for ideas. Standing on the threshold of the turn of the century, looking back 79 years ago today, it is heart-filled to hear the call of “May Fourth” predecessors for scientific democracy. Over the past half century, generation after generation of Chinese youth, inspired by the spirit of the May Fourth Movement, have sought truth, joined revolution and construction, and paid unimaginable hardships. Under the leadership of the party, the “sour” kinds of sowing of the May Fourth Incident have destroyed the shackles of imperialism and feudalism. The vision of good-willed men and women of that era has become a reality in our land. After decades of construction and development, especially in the period of reform and opening up, China’s economic growth ranks the forefront of the world in recent years. Its overall national strength has become quite different from that of the previous year. July 1 last year, China resumed its exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, a snow-shame. These achievements deserve our cherished and proud.
