In 1990, US satellite manufacturers could receive $1.05 billion in revenue from satellite sales, which accounted for almost 1/3 of the total $3.5 billion in commercial aerospace transactions that year, and their profits increased by more than 10% from 1989. These new commercial satellite contracts, coupled with the ever-increasing demand for satellite antennas and relay services, drove the commercial space activities of the United States in 1990. Changes in satellite sales have caused fundamental changes in commercial space operations. The seven commercial satellites manufactured in the United States in 1989 were all purchased by foreign customers. The revenue of nearly 900 million U.S. dollars in the year increased by 64% compared with 1988.
