The authoritative Geneva-based Morgan-Stanley Company rated the top 1,000 global companies in 1998 based on the latest market capitalization. The biggest piece of information revealed by this selection is due to the impact of the Asian financial crisis, the global economy appears to be showing a new trend of “no bright East”. Asian economic strength suffered a huge setback, while the economies of Europe and the United States enjoyed a relatively steady growth. Among the world’s top 1000 companies in 1998, U.S. companies accounted for nearly half of the 480 companies; among the top 10 companies in the list, there were more than eight U.S. companies, accounting for 80% of the total. The top of the list of GE’s market value as high as 271.64 billion US dollars; the tenth Intel’s market value of 121.16 billion US dollars. A total of 350 companies in Europe were short-listed
