Mr. Du Lao, 96, of Taipei City, takes a taxi every Sunday to listen to a Beijing opera agency in the downtown area. He was climbed up the narrow staircase by his son and entered the Peking Opera Company on the second floor. He stayed in the playhouse until he was back home by car. In the modern metropolis of Taipei, there are quite a few elderly people who are as obsessed with Peking Opera as Du. They are active in more than 20 theater and farewell parties in Taipei. During a one-month station-station interview in Taiwan, I came into contact with the opera friends from across the Taiwan Strait. In the “quintessence” art, I and many Peking Opera fans formed a “Year of the Rat”.
