From the time of the Gaozu to the late King Jingdi, the Western Han Dynasty insisted on a clearly identifiable grand strategy for a long time in the relationship with the northern rival Huns. Its characteristics can be summed up defensively. The impetus for imperial court to draw up and continue this strategy should be explored from the domestic factors, the profound lesson and lasting shock of the defeat of the Bardon War in the Gaozu period, the continuous infiltration of the anti-Qin trend and the conservative political culture at the court, and the serious interference with the imperial foreign trade A slight domestic political integration, together, limited the will and ability of the imperial court to adopt his strategy.
