新疆画院画家袁湘帆爱画驼,山水画中常有骆驼,或许这同他早年的军旅生涯有关。上世纪50年代初,进军西藏解放阿里高原时,他和战友骑马骑骆驼行程数千公里,在翻越海拔7652米的东君拉达坂时,十八匹军马倒毙,五位战友牺牲,他的马也死了。风雪路上,他掉队了,又患了肺炎,他从倒毙的马背上取下可用之物,在一块巨石旁搭了个窝,独自一人在深山里昏迷了两天两夜。第三天下午两位战友带着三峰骆驼找到了他,把他驮回部队;那段生死经历,使他对战友对骆驼有了很深的情感。
