The thermodynamic properties of the selected intermetallic compound hydrides were measured using a Sievert gas-solid balancer in combination with a Tian-Calvet differential calorimeter. This device can simultaneously measure enthalpy changes and Gibbs energy; differential structure does not require P △ V correction. The construction of the calorimeter is such that the heat flow in and out of the measurement area quickly reaches a large number of heat sinks and is largely eliminated by connecting the thermopiles. One zone contains the reaction sample, the other zone is empty or has the same inert material as the heat capacity. Therefore, the differential thermopile signal will be proportional to the net heat flux of the reaction. As the heat flow in and out of the gases cancel each other out, small “parasitic” heat flows along the gas communication system
