This year, natural disasters have taken place in different parts of the world with the world’s grain output declining for the second year in a row. This has not happened in the history of world grain production for more than 40 years. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the world cereal output in 1988 is once again below the global level of food consumption and the inventory will further decrease, which is bound to cause a sharp rise in food prices. For many developing countries, especially for LIFDCs, the international trade deficit will be further widened and the economy will be more constrained.
