Researchers at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom have successfully developed ultrathin Quantum-Emitting Diode (LED) components that are only a few atoms thick and can be used to study new computational and sensing technologies. The ability to produce single photons using only current is an important part of building a compact chip quantum network. Computers developed based on quantum mechanics have better computational performance and security than existing computers. To develop such LED components, researchers need to develop a reliable method of generating a single photon that is difficult to discern from the current as an information carrier through a quantum network.
