《史记·太史公自序》载司马迁年十岁则诵古文,司马贞之《史记索隐》认为“古文”是指伏生所传《尚书》。另有诸家认为“古文”应指用先秦文字所写就的典册旧籍,如《左传》《国语》等。从时间角度考察,司马迁与伏生并未产生交集,故《史记索隐》之说有误。《史记》通篇未曾提及《左传》,其成书年代亦有待商榷,故诸家举例《左传》亦不严谨。 “Shi Ji Taishi public order” contains Sima Qian year-old is chanting the ancient text, Sima Zhen’s “Shi Ji Suo Yin” that “Ancient Chinese ” refers to the “Book of Vatican”.
