近代以来,在西方武力征服和文化渗透的压力下,中国的社会形态和文化精神发生了巨大的转型,民族文化精神的“断裂”成为转型所付出的沉重代价。这种“断裂”体现为既要在进行“器物”层面现代化的同时引进与此相适应的西方现代文化精神,又要守护悠久历史所形塑的民族文化精神。更为重要的是,这两种文化精神在近代之初是相互对立、难以融通的,两者之间构成了另一处“断裂”。使两者达成融合与沟通,这是近代以来中国文化界的最大课题。如果说“融合”是淡化文化本位,将两位文化混合在一起而建立一种新文化的话,那么“沟通”则是在承认文化断裂的前提下,以本民族的文化精神为本位,在与相异文化不断对话的过程中打破自身文化的封闭性,使其具有更大的开放性,从而最终使民族文化精神由断裂走向和谐,以适应时代变革的需要。宗白华先生的美学思考便一以贯之地体现了“沟通”的态度。本期刊发的胡继华《守护古典艺术的余韵——宗白华“气韵生动说”简论》一文,通过分析宗白华先生阐释“气韵生动”所依附的时代背景和问题意识,这种强调“沟通”的文化态度进行了抉发,显示出宗先生在中国美学现代转型中的重要作用。在今天,文化中的“断裂”变得更为复杂,弥合文化中的种种断裂而使之趋向和谐,仍是当今文化建设最重要的课题。
