垂直升船机有三种基本型式,即平衡铊式、水压式及浮筒式,能利用相互重量以资平衡的有平衡铊式及水压式,因此应就二者中选择。但在三峡水利枢纽布置中,由于上游水位变化大而下游变化小,水压式在应用时不能适应这一情况,只能于水位差变化不大时用,故选择平衡铊式。又为了节约平衡铊重并使应用于水位差变化巨大的情况其型式如图1:
