即使没有公租房计划,重庆此前的房价相比之下也并不高。近年来,重庆经济以15%左右的速度增长,房价则保持平稳态势。在西部地区,重庆的平均房价低于成都、贵阳、西安等城市。薄熙来等重庆市领导多次承诺,要让普通双职工家庭6至7年的家庭收入可以买得起一套普通商品房。2009年底,重庆主城区商品房成交均价为每平方米4179元,双职工家庭年收入与商品房均价之比约是5.92:1。
