宁都县长胜公社山东大队社员林玉城,几年来坚持搞小环棚西瓜栽培新技术的试验,摸索出一套西瓜高产栽培经验。1983年林玉城利用1.5亩责任地,进行小环棚西瓜高产栽培,在栽培过程中,尽管前期雨水过多、后期又受久晴无雨的不利气候影响,但由于采用小环棚新技术,西瓜总产量达19,500斤,折合亩产13,000斤,西瓜提早上市20天,总收入达1,750元,折每亩收入1,170元,除每亩成本费薄膜34元、茅竹10元、种子12元、肥料232元及用工45元共333.00元外,每亩纯收入可达837元。实践证明,采用小环棚技术栽培西瓜,具有收益早、花工少、成本低、经济效益高等优点。
