胶州湾是我国著名的优良港湾,驰名中外的青岛港就在该湾之中。由于海湾水深域阔,隐蔽平静,因此,它在军事上和经济上都居非常重要地位。随着国民经济的蓬勃发展和对外贸易的不断扩大,现有青岛港的泊位和设备已远不能满足国民经济不断增长的需要。因此,在胶州湾内开辟新的港口已势在必行。但胶州湾内岸区水深条件较好的地方均被利用,再加上建港所需的其它条件,需向湾内其它地方,如黄岛前湾、海西湾发展。然而,这些地区水深较浅,有较厚的松散沉 Jiaozhou Bay is a famous good harbor in our country, and the well-known Qingdao Port is located in this bay.
