在不同时期主权评级下调对股票市场的影响存在差异表现，市场受影响的波动幅度，随经济发展逐渐减弱，整体而言股票市场对主权评级下调的反应是超短期的，基本都在2天内迅速消化该影响信息。“顺周期”评级调整行为，会强化后期的信息预期；“逆周期”评级调整行为，则导致后期滞后反应。
