In 1971, New Engl J Med proposed a hypothesis that tumors grow by angiogenesis. This view has now been widely accepted due to several years of laboratory and clinical observation data support. These studies led to the discovery of angiogenic polypeptides, elucidated their complete amino acid sequence, and cloned their genes. The molecular weight of angiogenic proteins ranges from 5500 to 45000 and can be classified according to their effects on the vascular endothelium. Some proteins, such as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-DCGF), are mitogenic, chemotaxis, and in special cases have two vascular epithelial cells.
