这是一本内容丰富的养蜂学。它包括世界养蜂事业的简史,蜜蜂的品种、解剖学、营养、行为、遗传和育种,养蜂技术和设备,蜂产品的采收、保藏和应用,疾病、农药中毒和敌害等等,共22章,60多万宇。本书初版于1853年,原书名是《郎斯特罗什论蜂箱与蜜蜂》。作者郎氏在书中所介绍的他发明的蜂箱,即现在的标准蜂箱,又称郎氏蜂箱,推广到了全世界,因而建立了现代养蜂业。这本书至今已修订、再版20余次,是以后历经一百多年逐步增补内容而成的一本养蜂名著。眼下这个中文本是根据美国达旦父子公司1975年组织各国作者修订再版,1979牟印行的版本翻译的,是建国以来从西方国家翻译的第一部养蜂著作。
