天津滨海高新技术产业开发区于1988年经天津市委、市政府批准建立,1991年被国务院批准为首批国家级高新技术产业开发区,核心区由华苑科技园、未来科技城南区、未来科技城北区、塘沽海洋科技园四部分组成,辖区面积近230平方公里.2014年12月,国务院正式批复同意支持天津高新区建设国家自主创新示范区.多年来,天津高新区主要经济指标保持高速增长,成为天津市创新资源最为丰富、自主知识产权拥有量最多、经济增长最具活力的重要区域.未来,天津高新区将进一步推动产业结构优化升级,努力打造“具有国际竞争力的产业创新中心”.
