In July this year, a right-wing group in Japan ignored the strong opposition of the Chinese people and world public opinion and built a lighthouse on Diaoyu Island in China. On August 18th, the Japanese right-wing group erected a sign with a solar flag on the south side of the island. On September 9, the Japanese right-wingers once again boarded the Diaoyu Islands to build a lighthouse. There are three reasons why Japan’s right-wing forces have invaded and built lighthouses on the Diaoyu Islands in quick succession. First, they attempted to create a false impression that the Diaoyu Islands’ jurisdiction and dominance were granted to the world through a series of moves. Second, they seized the Diaoyu Islands. The continental shelf of the East China Sea and the exclusive economic zone have gained a more proactive position in the demarcation of the ocean and can draw large amounts of oil and gas from the area.
