The decay accelerating factor (DAF, CD55) is a -70 kD glycoprotein with an anchored glycosyl phosphatidylinositol (GPI) structure that regulates the traditional complement pathway and the formation and stability of by-passed C_3 convertase . A Cromer blood group antigen is located on the DAF molecule. The null phenotype in the absence of Cromer antigen on red blood cells is called Inab. Serological studies have shown that this zero phenotype represents a hereditary deficiency of DAF in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH)
