清初,以朗士宁为代表的洋画家融合中西的画法,采用自上而下的传播途径,可视为西洋画在清代传播的先声。鸦片战争后,美查从他创办的《瀛寰画报》因纯正西洋风而夭折的教训中,逐渐认识到画报技法和题材贴近中国的重要性,遂聘请深谙中国传统的桃花坞年画师吴友如为《点石斋画报》主笔,吴友如以本土年画为基础融合西洋画法,使画报大为风行。
In the early Qing Dynasty, Western artists such as Lang Shih-ning, who combined Chinese and Western paintings, adopted a top-down approach to dissemination as the forerunner of Western painting in the Qing Dynasty.
