It is reported that China’s cultural consumption accounts for 6% of total consumer spending, of which half come from education spending. In contrast, foreign cultural spending accounted for up to 18% of total consumer spending, but also does not include education spending. Researcher Zhang Xiaoming, deputy director of the Cultural Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that the relatively low expenditure on cultural consumption by Chinese residents is due to the fact that the public service system is not in place, which has squeezed the cultural consumption or suppressed the expenditure on cultural consumption.
