The “minaret” (formerly known as the Bishop’s Gate Building) is located at the Bishop’s Gate and Crosby Square. It will become one of the most significant new buildings in the city and its design will strengthen the overall characteristics and personality of the tall buildings in the area. The programme will also make a substantial contribution to the public domain, opening the first floor space to pedestrians and linking it with many important urban spaces along the Bishop’s Gate and St. Mary’s Axe Avenue. The geometric shape of the building is made up of simple slicing cones and is bundled with a gradually shrinking plane to form a design envelope. The roof is built according to a set of parameters along a series of tangential arcs along the façade and the slashing cone. Its edge is controlled by a regular curve and determines the curvature of the roof edge space. Sustainable systems are an integral part of architectural design. Aerodynamic styling improves the natural ventilation effect of snake skin facades. Outer glass protects minus
