MUSE system is developed by Japan NHK, using data compression technology to 20MHz broadband, 125 lines of high-definition television (Hi-Vision) signal compression to 8MHz narrowband retransmission technology. To this end, the receiver must have a MUSE decoder, the narrowband transmit signal back to the original signal of the broadband. The BS-3a broadcast satellite scheduled to be launched by Japan in 1990 will use MUSE mode to broadcast high-definition television. Under the guidance of NHK, Matsushita, Toshiba and Japan Electric have developed 20 kinds of LSIs for the main circuits in the MUSE decoder. Sharp, Sony and Hitachi have also developed four kinds of LSIs for decoder interface circuits. This makes the decoder can be low-cost and pocket size, its volume is only one-tenth of the original.
