当代我国体育运动的基本内容是竞技体育与群众体育。从其内部结构来看,主要包括运动竞赛和运动训练两大重要组成部分,而综合性运动会正是体育运动最直接最生动的表现形式,是体育运动的根本属性。 综合性运动会是一系列单项锦标赛的综合形式,特点是项目多、规模大、组织工作比较复杂,一般分为竞技体育类和群众体育类。竞技体育类包括国际综合性运动会(我国参加的):奥运会、亚运会、东亚运动会、亚非运动会。国内综合性运动会:全国运动会、全国城市运动会。群众体育类包括国际综合性运动会(我国参加的):世界大学生运动会、世界中学生运动会、伤残人运动会。国内综合性运动会、全国大学生运动会、全国中学生运动会、全国职工运动会、全国农民运动会、全国少数民族运动会、全国伤残人运动会等。另外还有省、自治区、市、解放军、行业综合性运动会。
