Due to financial reasons, the U.S. military delayed the planned drafting of the huge amount of chemical weapons that it had destroyed. The U.S. Pentagon has a special budget of 200 billion U.S. dollars for the removal of the already heavily contaminated military bases and arms factories in the next 30 to 50 years, including stockpiles for the destruction of chemical weapons. The U.S. Department of Energy is also responsible for implementing another more expensive plan: to control toxic waste at nuclear plants. According to the White House, the federal government will invest about 6 billion U.S. dollars in fiscal year 1992 to specifically implement the environmental protection plan for military installations. As planned, the military will destroy 60-70 million pounds of mustard gas and nerve agents in nine locations, eight of which will be built at the U.S. Army’s base for the storage of chemical weapons and the other will be Johnston County, which will host the South Pacific . Experts believe that most of the destroyed chemical weapons will take at least 30 years to lose their adverse effects and require technically guaranteed destruction of chemicals without leaving little by little.
