Single-mode coupler consists of standard single-mode fiber (core diameter 8 ~ 10μm, cladding 125μm) made. The coupling theory between single-mode couplers and multi-mode couplers is not the same. Single-mode coupling is based on loss-wave coupling while multi-mode coupling is based on optical transmission, so multi-mode couplers are wavelength-independent whereas single-mode couplers are wavelength dependent. When the wavelength changes, the single-mode coupler splitting ratio will change. For example, the coupling ratio is 50:50 at a wavelength of 1310 nm, and the coupling ratio is likely to change to 70:30 when the wavelength is changed to 1350 nm.
