On July 8 this year, the French Minister for Research and New Technology of the new government visited Moscow and held discussions with the Russian government on the further strengthening of exchanges and cooperation in the fields of basic research and technological research. The cooperation areas identified by the two sides are: mathematics, environment, climate, Biology, space technology, laser technology and genomes (especially biochips and bioinformatics). In fact, the science and technology cooperation between France and Russia has greatly developed in recent years. According to statistics, in 2001 the French government scientific research institutions received a total of 1,764 Russian researchers, the same period 580 French researchers visited Russia.
