STMicroelectronics (STMicroelectronics) announced the first of a family of secure smart card integrated circuit (IC) platforms to use the company’s 0.18μm process technology. The migration to 0.18μm processing technology will enable ST’s smart card ICs to have a larger storage capacity, smaller die size, more functionality and greater performance improvements. The first of the two new chips, the ST22WJ64 from the SmartJ ™ (Tm) 32-bit RISC platform family. The smart card controller unit ST22WJ64 includes 224 kilobytes of ROM, 64 kilobytes of EEPROM, and 8 kilobytes of RAM. It is worth mentioning that, ST22WJ64 direct hardware implementation
