本文综合介绍了除草地膜的特点和除草机理，并对使用除草膜时如何提高除草效果作了详细的说明。蔗田使用除草地膜对由种子长出的各种杂草总防除效果达90％以上，有效期达三个月，与不盖膜比较，每亩可增产甘蔗1～1.5t。同时对使用除草膜与喷除草剂盖膜和不用地膜作了苗期的经济投入和劳力投入的比较，除草膜处理在经济效益上是最好的。近5年来南方主要蔗区推广甘蔗除草膜面积已超过38万亩。
