In 2010, FINA for the first time in history decided to award those athletes who have made the most outstanding achievements during the year. In partnership with WaterWorld, 202 members of FINA voted for the polls, including leaders of sports organizations, members of different committees, officials, coaches, journalists and news agencies. Based on around 500 valid ballots gathered from around the world, the final 2010 best athletes were Ryan Rochette and Teresa Al-Shamal (swimmer), Patrick Haussin and Chen Ruolin (Diving), Natalia Ishchenko (synchronized swimming), Valerio Clerie and Anna Masera-Kunha Anna (open water), Udovici and Elizabeth Armstrong water polo).
