推理公式法计算洪峰流量已被广泛应用于水利、交通等部门。它的计算方法一般有诺模图法、试算法和近似求解法。诺模图法要查很多图表,难免产生累积误差,而且也不能用电脑编程计算,试算法虽然计算准确且能电脑编程,但设值试算时很是不便。用近似法靠 Excel 编一系列公式,思路清晰、结果明了,其计算结果与试算法相比误差仅在0.07%左右(偏大),比较准确,具有较高的可靠性。其计算速度之快是诺模图、试算都望尘莫及的。
