湖北省1985年柑橘栽培面积62万亩,其中橙类面积仅21.7万亩,柑橘品种以温州蜜柑为主,橙类较少。随着清江水电站的建设,将大大调节和改善清江流域的柑橘生产小气候,因此,在清江两岸适当发展部分质优耐贮甜橙良种,扩大我省橙类面积,满足市场需要,加速清江流域两岸柑橘品种结构的改良,同时对鄂西贫困山区的开发,振兴湖北经济具有深远的意义。
