目前全世界通用以体重指数(BMI)来衡量一个人胖或不胖。世卫组织拟定的世界标准是BMI大于30为肥胖,但在相同的BMI水平时,黄种人体内的脂肪含量要比欧美人高,即使看起来没那么胖,也很可能超标了。因此在中国,肥胖的标准是BMI超过28。值得一提的是,腰围每增长1英寸,患癌的风险就会增高8倍。而中国人肥胖的特点是腹型肥胖,即苹果型身材。因此,除了重视体重之外,腰围粗细也是健康瘦身中必须关注的要素:如果男性腰围超过90cm,女性超过85crm,就表示进入了肥胖行列。
