In July 1933, there was an incident in which a group of northeast Green Gangs were scheduled to visit Japan. The incident was directed at Japanese groups and the Kwangtung Army in the northeast. They planned and facilitated the implementation of the plan for the delegation to visit Japan by the Green Gang. In the face of the changes in the northeast political pattern after the “September 18” Incident, some of the leaders of the Green Gangs have voted well for the Japanese and the Kwantung Army and falsely claimed that the Youth League is a religious group and actively participated in the construction of the puppet Manchukuo of the Kwantung Army. This rather absurd drama suggests that pre-war Japan’s understanding of Chinese society is far from what it has generally said. As the Japanese scholar Koichi Koichi’s reflection: Japan’s failure in modern times is the failure of its understanding of China.
