With the development of transmission networks in the direction of long distance and large capacity, HVDC transmission lines are more and more widely used in power grid construction. High-voltage composite insulators, a major transmission equipment, have become an important factor affecting the development of HVDC transmission lines. However, the insulators used in the 500 kV DC transmission lines already built in China basically rely on imports. In order to ensure the smooth development of 500kV DC composite insulators, China National Grid Corporation of Power Construction, Electric Power Research Institute, Tsinghua University, and Xiangfan State Grid Composite Insulator Co., Ltd. jointly undertake the major national scientific research projects and the supporting products of the Three Gorges Project with ± 500kV DC synthesis.
