Energy efficiency testing methods for refrigerator appliance in APEC region has been investigated and compared, that 4 widely-applied standards have been concluded as IEC 62552:2015, IEC 62552:2007, AU standard, and US standard. Commonalities and differences of the four testing methods, have been analyzed by laboratory testing taking four typical refrigerators. It has been shown from the testing results that tested energy consumption in IEC 62552:2015 standard is higher than IEC 62552:2007 among the 4 selected samples. This has been reflected in the energy efficiency grade comparison that the 4 samples behave as the poor energy efficiency product in China with the new IEC 62552:2015 and in Australia compared with the results calculated by IEC 62552:2007. For the same sample, different testing methods have significant impacts on energy consumption and volume testing results. Furthermore, different testing methods for different product category have yielded different energy consumption and volume results. Key impacting factors have been identified when analyzing IEC 62552:2015 and other 3 standards in the APEC by methods of deviation and two points interpolation on the basis of testing results. This provides APEC economies good reference if they conduct harmonization refrigerator EE testing methods to IEC 62552:2015.
